Don't blush

As you can see, my goal to post every day lasted about five days. Go me! I know, I'm such a slacker! Actually, you have no idea what a big slacker I am. But I'm not going to elaborate. I'm hoping you all still like me......

Anyway, a bit of a sensitive topic today. One that I feel is unfortunately becoming more and more important in today's world.

Now I'll be honest, until I saw this opportunity to post about this topic, it wasn't one I had thought about in great detail. It wasn't anything I ever had to worry about, and in fact, I didn't even know what STD meant until I was married. And for a while at that.

Now I find myself asking these questions......Do I talk about this with my kids? If so, when? Would it be better coming from me or from Eldon, their dad? Is it something I even need to worry about?

As most of my readers know, I am LDS (a member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints). Abstinence before marriage is not only strongly encouraged, it is a commandment. I waited until marriage, my husband waited until marriage, and in fact, our parents and all of our siblings did as well. So it's not a huge surprise that this was a topic I wasn't familiar with.

But the truth is, people make mistakes, and the world is changing. It's no longer widely accepted and expected for people to wait to be intimate until marriage. And the reality of STD's are not going to go away.

There are so many situations in which getting an STD test is not only practical, but necessary. You may be marrying someone that was married before, you may be married to someone that you find out has been unfaithful, or you may be sexually active yourself and just want to make sure. Thankfully, there are private and easy ways to make sure. And it's always better to be safe than sorry.

I feel so lucky and blessed that this is not something I have to worry about myself. But as my boys get older we will need to make sure they are educated. I will always be an advocate of abstinence before marriage, and faithfulness after. I think it is the pathway to true happiness.

I am participating in the Let’s Talk about STDs Campaign for RapidSTDtesting.com. I received compensation to facilitate this post. However, the views and opinions are my own.

  1. I never think about it either but you are right. It IS something that people should still know about.

  2. I feel there is a need for clear and unbiased sexual education, on all aspects of a safe consenting sex life, as even if you choose to abstain until wedlock a knowledge of these issues surely is beneficial?
