Where can I turn?

Where can I turn for peace?
Where is my solace
When other sources cease to make me whole?
When with a wounded heart, anger, or malice,
I draw myself apart,
Searching my soul?

Where, when my aching grows,
Where, when I languish,
Where, in my need to know, where can I run?
Where is the quiet hand to calm my anguish?
Who, who can understand?
He, only One.

He answers privately,
Reaches my reaching
In my Gethsemane, Savior and Friend.
Gentle the peace he finds for my beseeching.
Constant he is and kind,
Love without end.

This is my third week now of missing church because of being sick or having sick kids. I do not do well when I miss church. It's the one thing that really helps me get through my week. So to me, it's really not such a huge surprise that I was so negative and down this last week.

I don't understand myself. I don't know where the aching comes from. Whenever I take a step back I can see really how blessed I am. But that knowledge in my mind doesn't erase the aching in my soul.

And that is why I am so grateful that there is a way that I can have that peace again. I just have to turn to Him. I just don't understand why I can't seem to do it before I'm at the bottom of the pit. When I know that He's there for me whenever I need.

Prayer and song are what I needed for peace. What gives you peace?

  1. God is the only one. Nice words in the song. So true. I love old hymns, the followers of Christ back in those days were so passionate in their praise to God. What has happened to our society in loving Christ? I know, we forget, forget what He has done for us and the ultimate sacrifice He did so that we may be saved, saved from our sinful state and bondage. We have forgotten Him, and have lost the joy that is found in having a relationship with Him. I too fall short in this area. I too have lost joy in knowing my savior Jesus Christ loves me so much that He died to save me from eturnal torture. He is my one and only true comfort, my one and only friend I can call on at any time and no matter what. The one I can find rest in and comfort in those times of need, I forgot. I forgot to call on, to reach out to, to love. Praise him whose name is holy, who never changes, who is righteous when none other. Lord I pray that you will comfort Sharla during a time when she is away from fellowship. Lord bless her family that they may be well and be able to return to their daily schedules. Lord in this time let them remember who is the one it is all about...you, you are the alfa, the omega, the beginning and the end. There is none like you Lord, none like you. I say these things in your name, Jesus Christ. Amen.
Sharla, read the Holy Scriptures. The word of God shines and speaks to us if we let it. It is the only living book that is a teaching source devinely given to us. When you are not in fellowship for what ever reason, lean on Him by learning of Him through His word. I love you bunches and wish your family well. Rest well tonight. God is with you.

  2. I agree that God is what gives me peace. Knowing that He has a plan and walks beside me gives me great peace.

  3. Do some of us have a harder time finding that peace in God than others? I don't think so, I think it takes a lot of prayer and re-focusing on Him. Everyone is totally different, though.

It seems like it was so easy before I got married and had kids, lol. Journaling helps me a lot, but it's hard to make myself do it at this point in my life.

I'm glad you shared this! I can relate. And knowing you're not alone is a HUGE encouragement!

  4. I love that hymn. Yes we all have troubled times. Peace really does come from Him. Without him and the knowledge he shares gives us joy. I think security gives peace-knowing the future and how it all will end helps us to relax. I know for me, personally, I sing hymns when I have a hard day. I am not the strongest person when it comes to letting my attitude dwindle to crabbiness but I do try to correct it-and usually when I sing a hymn, I am changed. When I am not sick and pregnant-I dance-I love to dance and it brings a joy to me and a peace. So I think if you have a talent or hobby you enjoy-that can give you some peace too and uplift your spirits.

  6. Hi there! I'm visiting from SITS! What a great post and question. Jesus is the Prince of Peace, and He is my ultimate peace. I don't usually get down if I miss church from being sick, but just if I miss my daily quiet/prayer times...or even if they just get cut short. Jesus says that apart from Him we can do nothing and that if we abide in Him, He will abide in us (John 15). I'm learning the live continually in the presence of God and be filled continually with His Holy Spirit. That is the only true peace I know.
